Surface-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry (SALDI-MS) is a method in which nanostructures are utilized for ionization of analyte molecules without an organic matrix, allowing analysis of low molecular weight compounds because sample-derived peaks can be detected without matrix peaks in the low molecular weight range. In our laboratory, substrates suitable for SALDI that have Au nanostructures on Cu microgrids for TEM generated by galvanic displacement (GD) reaction in a magnetic field have been investigated. The shape and size of the Au nanostructures generated by GD reaction in the magnetic field were affected by the flow induced by magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) effect. Moreover, it was reported that metal nanostructures deposited with MHD effect had chiral selectivity. In this study, the optimum conditions of magnetic field strength, concentration of gold chloride solution and the container size in GD reaction for SALDI-MS measurement and chiral selectivity of ionization of amino acids induced by MHD effect were investigated.
