In the research and development of water electrolysis, a key technology for hydrogen production, further development of ion exchange membranes with enhanced performance is an ongoing process, requiring the use of more sophisticated chemical structure analysis methods. In this study, a detailed structural analysis of solvent-insoluble anion-exchange polymers with polar functional groups, like those in alkaline water electrolysis, was effectively achieved through the combination of chemical depolymerization LC/MS with conventional pyrolysis GC/MS. Various pretreatment and depolymerization techniques used in mass spectrometry were investigated.
