BIONEER has introduced a portable gas chromatography instrument (pGC), AccuGCTM 100, which was evaluated for its performance in detecting volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The study assessed the reproducibility and performance of the pGC by identifying the retention times of 20 VOCs, including Hexane, Benzene, and Toluene, and calculating their Kovats retention indices. The pGC was then tested with an atmospheric pressure chemical ionization mass spectrometer (APCI-MS) to evaluate compatibility. The optimization of injection port configurations, auxiliary gas flow, discharge current, and vaporization temperature were explored to enhance APCI-MS performance. The results showed that increasing discharge current caused peak instability, while minimizing auxiliary gas flow provided the best results. Further refinements to the pGC-APCI-MS interface improved sensitivity and spectral quality. These findings suggest that the pGC-APCI-MS system can enhance field-based applications in environmental monitoring and forensic analysis.
