We propose a novel method for preparing particle-aggregated substrates for SALDI-MS. In this method, two-dimensional lattice-like particles-aggregation structures could be achieved by magnetically arranging magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) on a soft magnetic microgrid. In fact, it was possible to pattern MNPs with the diameter of 15-30 nm by spraying MNPs solution on a permalloy-coated microgrid with applying a magnetic field. When MS measurement of reserpine was performed using this substrate, higher signal intensity of reserpine could be obtained compared to the signal that using the substrate without MNP patterning. Moreover, when MS imaging of reserpine dropped on the MNP patterned microgrid was performed, an image with two-dimensional uniform intensity was obtained. As these results, the effectiveness of the substrate with two-dimensional lattice-like patterning of MNP made by magnetic alignment on permalloy-coated microgrid for SALDI-MS was demonstrated.
