Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) released into the atmosphere by burning fossil fuels and biological activities are highly chemically reactive, so they are an important causative agent of air pollution such as photochemical oxidants and atmospheric aerosol particles (PM2.5). For comprehensive on-site real-time monitoring of a wide variety of VOCs, we have developed PTR-MULTUM consisting of a multi-turn time-of-flight mass spectrometer (MULTUM) with a proton transfer reaction (PTR) ion source. Performance evaluation confirmed that a good linear response was observed for 2 orders of concentration magnitude, and the limit of detection was around 6 ppbv for one-minute data accumulation.
