In collision-induced dissociation (CID) -MS/MS, which is often used in structural analysis of natural products, rare gases and nitrogen molecules gas are used as collision gases. Our research group has developed a new radical-induced dissociation technique named highly-integrated radical induced dissociation (HiRID) -MS/MS using charge-neutral and highly reactive radicals instead of collision gas. In this study, we succeeded in a structural determination of novel PK/RiPP hybrid polypeptides. The use of HiRID, which integrates a variety of radical species, has made possible the structural analysis of natural products, which has not been possible before.
