Polypropylene (PP) is widely used for industrial materials and utensils. PP is superior to PE in mechanical strength and transparency, but prone to rapid oxidation impacting its properties. Therefore, it is of the utmost importance to estimate the degree of oxidation of PP. In this study, combining high-resolution mass spectrometry and Kendrick mass defect (KMD) analysis allowed a thorough characterization and differentiation of the oxidative products. The relative intensity of the oxidative products was readily monitored and found to increase depending on the processing time, becoming a promising index to assess the degree of the oxidative degradation of PP.
