Environmental forensics (EF) is not so popular; however, it provides variety of vital methods in environmental science. Here, those methods are briefly explained and author’s experiences in the field of EF studies are presented. Solid waste incineration was once regarded as the major source of dioxin pollution in Japan. EF revealed that two rice field herbicides used in the 1960s and 70s contributed much to the pollution. In addition, allocations of remediation cost were calculated and proposed based on EF for some pollution sites.
