Identification of Volatile Products from Pyrolysis of Sulfur (S8)

Elemental sulfur has many allotropes and changes with heating. Although a lot of things about sulfur have been known, there are some questions that should be addressed such as the darkening and the structures of sulfur polymers. In this study, volatile products from pyrolysis of sulfur were identified by using an atmospheric pressure corona discharge ionization (APCDI) in negative-ion mode. The main products identified here were S3 and H2SO4.
