Carbon nanomaterials (CNMs; fullerenes, carbon nanotubes, graphene, carbon nanorods, nanodiamond, etc.,), are known as MALDI matrix and/or separation/extraction material because of their unique physical properties and chemical capabilities. We tested single-walled carbon nanotube, graphene and graphene oxide for rapid metabolites analysis by using commercially available MALDI-MS with YLF laser at 349 nm. As a result, arginine is detected by all these materials, however material handling and shape of thin layer on the target plate are different. Graphene oxide is better to prepare sample spot because its dispersibility in polar solvent.
