Microglial activation is known to cause diseases such as chronic pain. Currently, there is no biomarker of microglial activation that can be easily evaluated. We focused on 24S-hydroxycholesterol (24OHC) in blood as a novel biomarker of microglial activation. An analytical method of 24OHC by LC/MS/MS was developed and validated to investigate its potential as a biomarker of microglial activation in animal model or human.
