Kampo medicines are made by combining herbal medicines from nature, such as plants and minerals, and have been systematized as Kampo prescriptions after their efficacy and adverse events have been confirmed through long years of experience in treatment. Kampo medicines are composed of multiple components, and to scientifically understand their actions, it is useful to identify the active ingredients, elucidate their mechanisms of action, and utilize endogenous biomarkers. Omics, which is a comprehensive analysis of multiple components, is a suitable tool for such research, and we are focusing on metabolomics.
